Do It Yourself Interior Changes: The Living Space

The living area is an essential transition point of your space. But for my client, this was an area that served more of a stock area than it was a living room! He wanted some sort of change to make it a little more inviting to guests and family members without breaking the bank. So I suggested simple changes and chose this wall as the focal point of the room.

The Navy Blue paint creates a warmer atmosphere that ties in some of the colors of their furniture. This color also brings out the color of the wood flooring. The white horizontal and vertical strips as well as the black and white curtains create an artistic highlight for the window that were once a bland feature in the space. All in all, this project gave him the modern look that he wanted without breaking the bank!

Yuppie On A Budget

It's very hard for a lot of people to visualize an area with the kind of furniture and space plan that they have in mind. So when I was asked to aid a young professional in laying out the design of her first apartment, I created her a virtual layout of her actual space, layed out with the furniture that we had picked out in Ikea and Pier1.

She had a limited budget but she was very adamant about "making it work". She wanted red and orange walls (very bold girl) so I suggested accent walls instead of painting the whole apartment. She wanted a minimalistic approach to her area as she didn't want to do a lot of cleaning and dusting. I layed out a space plan for her that was cozy enough for her to come home to as well as warm and inviting enough to welcome friends and family for a get together. These designs are photo manipulations of the actual spaces. I use this design technique to help my clients visualize the furniture and design in their actual space.
